A status Yellow Snow and Ice warning has been put in place for five counties until nine o'clock this morning.
Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim and Louth are under the weather alert where snow, sleet and hail are possible.
Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly said the weather will stay bitterly cold even as showers die down.
“A very windy day ahead today and there will still be some showers this morning,” he said.
“Wintry in nature, especially Northern areas, with a risk of some hill snow but generally rain and sleet.
“Those showers will tend to die away for many areas through today but staying very windy into this evening and feeling bitterly cold.”
A status yellow wind warning is in place for Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo along with Leitrim, with strong and gusty bursts expected and the chance of wave overtopping near coasts until 3 this afternoon.
