The Stade de France in Paris will be filled with 'the roars of the Irish crowd' as Rhasidat Adeleke takes to the track for the 400m final this evening.
The 21-year-old from Tallaght is the first Irish woman to make a sprint final at an Olympic Games.
Rhasidat will be in lane four and will have Great Britain's Amber Anning on her right and Norway's Henriette Jaeger on her inside.
Rhasidat originally began her sporting journey by joining Tallaght Athletic Club at the age of 12.
Club spokesman Cecil Johnson told Newstalk Breakfast Rhasidat showed promise right from the beginning.
"Not only am I proud [but] I think the whole club and the country are so proud of Rhasidat's achievements to date," he said.
"Probably within a year or so after she joined the club, she started to show her metal in the sprint.
"She would have tried many other disciplines such as high jump or long jump [and] she did compete at cross-country.
"She did a lot of things before her coach at the time identified where her talents lay".
Mr Johnson said Rhasidat has made "super progression" in her field.
"She exudes confidence and she doesn't forget her roots," he said.
"That's one thing about her; she's a proud young Tallaght person and proud to be representing the club and country".
Asked about her medal hopes tonight he said: "I think if she's on top of her game she's certainly in contention for that podium.
"There's no doubt you'll hear the roars of the Irish crowd in the stadium tonight cheering her on, including myself.
"She'll do her utmost to get there and make the podium but she's still only 21 years of age and she has many, many years ahead of her," he added.
Team Ireland has won seven medals so far at Paris 2024; four gold across four different sports, and three bronze – making it Ireland’s most successful ever Olympic Games.
The race at the Stade de France in Paris begins at 7pm Irish time.
