A 4-year-old girl has died following a road traffic accident in county cork earlier today.

The single vehicle incident happened on the N20 Mallow/Cork Rd near Knocknabehy shortly after 4 o'clock.

It's understood a van left the road and collided with the grass verge.

All four occupants were taken to Cork University Hospital. One of them -a child-was pronounced dead on arrival.

Three others- including a second child- sustanined serious injures.

The road at Grenagh remains closed this evening and diversions are in place.
