The young girl who was seriously injured in the Parnell Square knife attack last November has been readmitted to intensive care.
The five-year-old was moved out of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in mid-December, with her parents saying she was now “more alert and even smiled”.
In January they said she had entered the third phase of her recovery – in which she would have to “relearn everything as a result of her injury”.
In the latest update, posted to her GoFundMe page yesterday, her family confirmed that she had suffered “a bit of a setback” and has been readmitted to the PICU.
“Bumps in the road, particularly this long one, are to be expected,” they wrote. “Nevertheless, we are still positive and hoping to get back on the ward.”
“Fingers crossed.”
The girl is one of three children who were injured in the attack outside Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire on November 23rd.
The two other children were released from hospital in the days after the attack.
Carer Leanne Flynn Keogh was also seriously injured in the attack.
She spent time in intensive care recovering from her injuries and has since been released from hospital.
50-year-old Riad Bouchaker has been charged with the attempted murder of the three children and causing serious harm to Ms Flynn Keogh.
He remains in custody awaiting trial.
