A young Irishman has drowned in a swimming pool in Greece.

The 22-year-old from Cullahill in County Laois was found unresponsive in the pool by friends on Sunday.

He was on the Greek island of Zakynthos when the tragedy happened.

It is understood he had recently travelled to Greece with friends and had been working there for the summer.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance to the man’s family.
