13-year-old Jack de Bromhead who was killed yesterday evening at the Glenbeigh Racing Festival, County Kerry, is the son of superstar horse trainerHenry de Bromhead.
The teenage boy from Waterford was taking part in what is known as the flapper races on Rossbeigh beach, a popular two day event held every year.
He was injured in what is described as a "freak accident" during a pony race when he fell from his horse.
The young jockey received treatment at the scene but was later pronounced dead.
All further events at the Glenbeigh Racing Festival on Rossbeigh Beach this weekend have been cancelled following the tragic incident.
A twin, de Bromhead is survived by his twin sister Mia, young sister Georgia and parents Henry and Heather.
Henry de Bromhead is a well-known horse trainer who has has saddled 18 winners at the Cheltenham Festival in his career.
