A man in his 30s has died in a crash in County Longford.

Gardaí say the single-vehicle crash happened on the N55 in Ballymahon at around 12:45am this morning.

The man was treated at the scene but later passed away from his injuries.

His body was taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar where a post-mortem will take place.

The road remains closed this morning as Gardaí carry out a forensic examination of the crash site.

Local diversions remain in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly interested in speaking to road users who were in the area at the time of the crash and may have dash cam footage.
