A young man has died in a car crash in Leitrim. 

The single vehicle crash took place before 7AM between Kinlough and Garrison this morning. 

One person in the car, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Sligo University Hospital for a post-mortem. 

The other person in the car, a woman in her 40s, has been hospitalised with serious injuries. 

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have carried out a technical examination of the scene but the road remains shut. 

Local diversions have been put in place and a Garda investigation is ongoing.
