A young man has been seriously injured in a Monaghan road crash. 

The crash took place on the R186 on the northern side of Tydavnet village sometime between 12.50pm and 3pm today. 

Only one car was involved in the crash and the young man, who is in his 20s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. 

His injuries are life-threatening and he has since been taken to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he remains in a critical condition.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to get in touch and are especially keen to speak to people who have dash cam footage.
