A young woman has died in a car crash in County Waterford.

Gardaí say the single-vehicle crash happened on the R685 at Quillia in Tramore at around 10:15pm last night.

A woman in her 20s, the driver and only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been removed to University Hospital Waterford where a post-mortem will be arranged.

The road remains closed for a forensic examination with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are now appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to road users who were travelling in the area between 10pm and 10:20pm and may have dash cam footage.
