Well soon you might be able to?

The Department of Social Protection is looking at ways to let people opt out of child benefit.

At the moment, every family with children is entitled to the €140 a month payment.

However Minister Joan Burton is said to be examining how those who don’t feel they need it could either opt out, or hand the cash back to the state.

Around 600,000 families get child benefit each month, which costs about €2 billion a year.

href="https://www.facebook.com/joanne.s.moore.5">Joanne Shields Moore If they sent a letter to every family who are getting children allowance to re-register, then maybe the people who don’t want it or who are not in the country won’t re-register and it may knock a few million off!

href="https://www.facebook.com/phil.oh.9">Phil Oh hahaha no chance, I use that to get by. Utilities are a crazy cost, health insurance, tax, vat, car expenses, car tax is a crazy cost, child care etc etc we get zero in return for what we pay in this country, zero. Child benefit is the one thing but really, I pay for that.  What a shower of b*****ds.

href="https://www.facebook.com/tj.hughes1981">Tj Hughes Nobody in this country will “opt out” of getting free money! Everyday I get more disillusioned with this place! Certain departments can cut social welfare if you work one day a week…other can prosecute you for driving without a seatbelt…or without tax… Is it really that difficult to determine a limit of income where a family does not qualify for the full children’s allowance and then implement the bloody thing!! Oh yes….what’s that stopping this again???…. Oh yes…political will!!

href="https://www.facebook.com/nicola.kehoe">Nicola Kehoe Graeme, they get to spend any spare cash on themselves!

href="https://www.facebook.com/phil.oh.9">Phil Oh ”Ž@TJ it’s not free money, many of us are paying for it, but ya, I guess we’ve got a society of those with a sense of entitlement who get free stuff and never ever pay income taxes, I’m self employed, they tell me if my business fails I’m on my own… tis a fantastic place, eh? So if I gave up CB and my business struggles, and I then totally goosed?

href="https://www.facebook.com/rwalski">Rachel Walski Like hell I will!!

href="https://www.facebook.com/joanne.s.moore.5">Joanne Shields Moore People will opt out I know of people that their allowance goes straight to a charity these people are not rich and famous either! I’m sure Bono Michael O Leary etc don’t need it and probably don’t want it!

href="https://www.facebook.com/ellen.purfield">Ellen Purfield No way my child allowance goes towards crèche and food be lost without it

href="https://www.facebook.com/sharon.f.roche">Sharon Farrell Roche If I was financially sound which I am not unfortunately I would deffo call them up and ask them to cancel my payment. It’s just right.

href="https://www.facebook.com/rob.duffy.965">Rob Duffy Taxation is theft, welfare is stolen money.

href="https://www.facebook.com/william.hain.7">William Hain No ours child allowance is put into a savings acc for THEM when they get older to help pay for there third level schooling

href="https://www.facebook.com/earthmomma82">Stephy Rowena Rob it’s my stolen money so I want it back! If I could afford to live without welfare then I would :-(

href="https://www.facebook.com/rob.duffy.965">Rob Duffy Imagine we were not stolen from at all Stephy. That’s a world I would love to live in. Peace.

href="https://www.facebook.com/earthmomma82">Stephy Rowena It would indeed be a nice world. Speculative utopian Sci-Fi is the closest ill get! Xx

href="https://www.facebook.com/larkinho7">Karl Larkin Opt out of child benefit payments, are you kidding? The majority of the people receiving the child benefit payments are as much gangsters as the people running the country.

Everyday I see people slating the government. Actually going as far as hating the people that run the country. And why exactly? Because they won’t dish out any more free money to the uneducated unmotivated wasters that fill our country?

The truth is, the Irish people have no idea how good they actually have it in comparison to other countries within Europe. Even our neighbours next door to us, England, pay their job seekers something like £60-£70 a week and every time these people go to sign on, it is compulsory to provide legit proof of their job seeking efforts by means of a signed letter or equivalent to their sign on office, or else they get cut off. Just imagine how many of the wasters that have NEVER paid tax in their life, that are literally making a career out of receiving free money in this country would be given a wake up call if this was to be introduced here? But yet, they choose to label our government obscene words just because we are in a GLOBAL recession. Not just a recession in Ireland, but a recession that affected the world. But they don’t know the first thing about what that entails, because they have no education, which by the way, the majority of the time is by choice.

And I know what people are going to reply with, but let me ask you, back when Ireland was booming in what was known as the Celtic Tiger, did any of you care then when corrupt politicians and business men were robbing our country blind? No, you didn’t, because you were kept happy with your dole that was over €200 at the time and your Christmas BONUS (bonus for absolutely nothing).

The fact of the matter is, Ireland’s politicians are no different to any other countries politicians. But our people, because of how many benefits we receive from the government(3 times more dole than England) have been brought up in a society where it’s not as vital to get an education or to independently provide for yourself long term as other countries.

EXAMPLE:

Spain only pays out to those that have worked and paid into the Spanish system and then its calculated on how much you have paid in as to how much and how long you receive any kind of unemployment subsidy.
/> Unemployed workers in Spain have the right to receive benefit if they have contributed the social security over a minimum period of 360 days within the last 6 years before they get unemployed.

href="https://www.facebook.com/gerorda">Gerorda Stamps wish I could spare it like that William Hain bloke…up himself with self righteousness or what? Win the lotto, sure no problem, take it back but whether you are saving it for them, or using it to feed and clothe them. It is a part of most families’ budget and therefore should be left alone.

href="https://www.facebook.com/keith.duffy.984">Keith Duffy It would be more feasible and sensible like UK to stop child allowance and instead bring in a tax free allowance for children. It’s a lot more equitable and of the pillars of an efficient tax system.

href="https://www.facebook.com/Gedlive">Gerry Nolan no now stops the government from talking s**t plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

href="https://www.facebook.com/cherill.munday">Cherill Munday I have never heard such unadulterated crap in my life……..the silly season goes on forever in this country

href="https://www.facebook.com/tedwardoconnor">Ted O’Connor Well put, Karl Larkin, the first to complain are quite often the first in line in the social welfare office, and they were there during the good times too.
