Concerns are being expressed about rural policing, after the death of a man who had discovered his house had been burgled.

62-year-old John O'Donoghue was found by his sister at the back of his house in Doon yesterday afternoon, after suffering a suspected heart attack.

A post mortem examination will be carried out later.

Two men remain in Garda custody in connection with the incident.

Limerick journalist, Catherine Hayes, told Newstalk Breakfast the burglary at Mr O'Donoghue's house has raised fresh concern about policing in the area which has no garda station.

While Fianna Fail spokesperson on justice, and local TD, Niall Collins claims the officer who arrested the two men had to use his own car to get to the scene.

He has criticised the Government for a lack of garda resources in rural Ireland.
