Minister wants CRC's new Board to retrieve Kiely's overpayment

A Cabinet minister has said the HSE and CRC should do 'whatever they can' to recover some of the money paid to Paul Kiely.

The former Chief Executive received a golden handshake of €740,000 when he retired, a payment that was criticised by a HSE report yesterday.

A report published yesterday by HSE director John Cregan criticised the rushed pay out deal for the former CEO Paul Kiely and found that some salaries were artificially split at the CRC in order to avoid public sector pay cuts.

Meanwhile the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee says HSE oversight of organisations that provide health services on its behalf needs to be overhauled.

Earlier, the representative who worked to uncover the CRC's financial set-up used the show to call for the 'spirit' of the Central Remedial Clinic to be revived.

Deputy Shane Ross, of the Public Accounts Committee, acknowledged the impact of adverse publicity on the charity sector, and paid tribute to the 'fantastic' work being done at the lower levels of the clinic:
