The head of the banking inquiry says he does not anticipate any resistance to compellability orders sent to more than a dozen senior witnesses.

Thirteen witnesses have been summoned to appear before the inquiry - including former executives of Bank of Ireland, AIB and Ulster Bank.

This marks the beginning of the next stage - or so-called 'nexus phase' of the Oireachtas committee hearings.

The inquiry began with a technical phase, but is starting to move to deal with the players involved.

Yesterday, economist David McWilliams told the inquiry that the chaos which led to the bank guarantee was totally avoidable.

He said the collapse was "incredibly predictable and absolutely preventable".

He gave evidence to the inquiry about how people who raised concerns about the banking sector were ignored

Deputy Ciarán Lynch is the chairman of the Oireachtas committee. He told Newstalk Breakfast compellability of witnesses is only there to ensure there is fair, due process.
