A woman who says she was raped by Bill Cosby has spoken of her elation at revelations this week, that the comedian admitted in 2005 to buying sedatives intended for use on women he wanted to sleep with.

Mr Cosby settled that civil case the following year and his lawyers had been trying to block the release of the court reports.

He has been publicly accused of sexual assault by 47 women - claims he denies.

One of those women - Barbara Bowman - says she has been waiting for this day for a long time.

"It was elation and motivation to keep on going on to pursue education and awareness of sexual predication in Hollywood...I never gave up hope", she told Newstalk Breakfast.

"I'm just learning about it as everyone else is...but to hear the admission of Cosby to say the word 'yes' it took ten years for that one word to confirm that indeed there was drugging and raping".

"In the last seven months it was just an explosion, a tsunami of exposure of what has really happened", she said.

"To see justice being served and to watch a legacy being crashed, that was built in deception in the first place, that's the pay off for me".

But Ms Bowman says she has not let it define her life.

"I took my life back after he threatened my life - after he said to me 'I'd better never ever see your face or hear your name again, and I disappeared for a while".

"And then I said 'no way - you will not dictate my life and I will not be broken by you'".

Says she is happy to hear the comedian admitted the charges, but she told Newstalk Breakfast she continues to have dark days.
