The Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan is getting to work on the list of schools that will benefit from funding she is getting in the new capital spending plan.
€3.8bn has been pencilled in for projects under her remit.
Minister O'Sullivan says the previous spending plan prioritised new builds, so there could be good news for schools in need of refurbishment this time around.
However she says the details are still being worked out.
"I'm just about to get a demographic report which will tell me exactly where the new schools are going to be needed, or where extensions to schools are going to be needed" she told Newstalk Breakfast.
"So we'll be working on that over the next couple of weeks, and then we will announce the school's capital programme - which will specifically say what schools are to be built in what years".
"There'll be a lot of interest in it around the country because obviously I do get a lot of representation" she added.
