A coroner has expressed concern about a new death cert that would not mention how someone died.
At present, under the 2004 Civil Registration Act a coroner or doctor provides the required particulars of a death - including cause of death - in order that it can be formally registered.
Regulations to allow the cause of death to be left off a 'short form' cert are at an advanced stage.
Tanaiste Joan Burton confirmed the news when she was asked by an opposition TD about plans to help those who have lost someone through suicide.
However coroner in east and south Kerry, Terence Casey, told Newstalk Breakfast that he thinks it is important that the details be open and on the record.
