The Australian couple accused of abandoning their surrogate baby in Thailand say they would have preferred to abort the boy.

David and Wendy Farnell last night gave their first interview since it emerged they had left baby Gammy, who has Down's Syndrome.

They returned to Australia with his healthy twin sister.

They said "no parent wants a child with a disability" and they learnt of his condition too late to terminate.

But Wendy and David Farnell say they did not reject baby Gammy.

They claim they were threatened with losing both babies by their Thai birth mother if they took the boy.

Speaking to '60 Minutes' on Australia's Nine Network, the couple deny they abandoned their newborn son:

Meanwhile, more details have also emerged about Mr Farnell's 22 previous child sex convictions.
