Over 1,200 people attended the two day Orby Sale of handpicked one-year-old horses in Kill, County Kildare with buyers from Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East present. Over 400 plus lots were offered with the total amount coming in at just under €25 million. The average sale price was €101,004.

The staff at Goffs spend the year travelling around the world to ensure that the the highest quality of horses are offered for sale.

Yesterday saw the extraordinary sale of a colt by developer Michael Ryan for €2.85 million to John Magnier's Coolmore Stud. It was highest amount paid for a horse in Ireland in 25 years.

John Magnier was one of those I spoke to on Wednesday. I spent an afternoon at Goffs soaking up the atmosphere and learning a bit more about what it is that makes Irish racing and this sale one of the biggest events on the calender.
