16% of children have been the target of online abuse or cyber bullying and one in ten have admitted to being the perpetrator themselves.
To try and tackle this growing problem, Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn has published new anti-bullying procedures to be adopted and implemented in 4,000 primary and post primary schools by the end of this school year.
This morning Chris and Ivan were joined by a panel to discuss whether the framework published by the Department is enough, and to look at the best ways of dealing with cyber bullying. Director of the Anti-bullying Centre in DCU, Dr. James O’Higgins Gorman and two young women who’ve experienced cyber-bullying in their own lives, Beibhinn Wynne Judge and Aine O’Connell were in studio.
