The government has approved draft legislation aimed at addressing concerns around data protection in the new postcode or Eircode system.
Minister for Communications Alex White said the government had approved the draft legislation for Eircodes, which will be introduced later this year.
It comes after the Data Protection Commissioner advised the government that the postcode project should have its own data protection legislation.
Liam Duggan, business development director for Capita Ireland and Eircode, spoke to Newstalk Breakfast this morning and said they will not be storing any personal data.
He explained that if the legislation passes as expected, the system will begin rolling out in June of this year.
