Homeowners are being warned to expect more hikes to energy bills in the coming months.
Bord Gáis Energy yesterday announced price increases of 1.47% - working out at about €14 every year per household.
It follows another 2% increase last October - both of which were approved by the Commission for Energy Regulation.
David Kerr of Bonkers.ie told Newstalk's Breakfast the move could have a knock-on effect on both gas and electricity prices:
It is the last time BGE will have to go to the Commission for Energy Regulation to seek permission for a price hike, because its business is being de-regulated - that means, in the future, Bord Gáis Energy will be able to set its own prices without oversight.
