They met in 1958 and had a dance and a chat.
He was an English man visiting Dublin on a rugby tour and she was the lovely Dublin girl who stole his heart.
When he returned to England they began to write to each other and even managed to meet up in 1961 in London.
But Freer had to rush off from their date for an urgent work call with the Metropolitan Police Force.
They lost contact and Freer later married and settled down in Leicestershire with his wife.
After his wife died some years ago, the 78-year-old has wanted to find Bridie Fortune again and has even placed ads in newspapers but to no avail.
He spoke to Newstalk Breakfast this morning and gave the little bit of information he remember about her:
"I assume she came from Dublin. She had dark hair and was very attractive....she said she had a brother who was a priest and that's about all to be honest."
