At one point, the Dublin native was heralded as the heir to Brian O'Driscoll's number 13. Capped 54 times for his native province, Eoin O'Malley was known for his speed and ability to think on his feet.

The 25-year-old is now planning for life after the oval ball and is beginning his second year of a Masters degree in Finance. Eoin spoke candidly about his retirement saying "There was obviously huge disappointment attached to it all...the reaction was pretty overwhelming, it was great to see. Looking back on it now, it's probably one of those things when you finally do retire and call it a day people probably are a bit kinder to you than when you were playing."

After two years battling injuries, Eoin decided to call it a day before he got the opportunity to reach his prime. Despite this, he wouldn't change his story, "When I was looking forward at ten-years-old, if it'd been (told) I was in the same scenario I would have taken it ten times over."
