The extradition of former Anglo chief David Drumm could take just a matter of months, but is likely to be drawn out much longer than that.

Yesterday the Department of Justice said it wouldn't comment on reports it's begun the extradition process.

However it's understood that diplomatic moves are underway to have Mr Drumm returned to Ireland to face criminal charges after his bid to be declared bankrupt in the US failed.

Larry Donnelly - Boston lawyer and law lecturer at NUI Galway - told Breakfast the extradition could happen quite quickly, but that depends on how much work has already gone behind the scenes:

Yesterday, a Boston Judge ruled that Mr Drumm should not be allowed to walk from his debts of more than ten million euro.

Seven months after David Drumm's Boston bankruptcy trial, a US Judge last night rejected his bid for a fresh financial start..

In a damning 122 page ruling - Judge Frank Bailey -said that the 48 year old had made statements to the court that were "both knowing and fraudulent" and that the former Anglo Irish Bank boss - had been "not remotely credible."
