Gardaí are appealing for information after yesterday's tiger kidnapping in West Dublin.

During the raid a mother and daughter were held hostage in a van, while a male family member was forced to hand over money.

It is believed the man, who is a cash-in-transit employee, was made to deliver at least €200,000 to the three-man gang.

The incident caused a major security alert at Dublin Aiport.

The family were not physically hurt during the incident but are said to be traumatised.

Trade union SIPTU, which represents cash-in-transit workers, is now calling for specialist kidnap training for workers.

Organiser Brendan Carr spoke to Newstalk Breakfast and highlighted that "the employees and the families of the employees are most vulnerable at this point".

While he noted that there were procedures for this type of event "the unfortunate situation is, when someone's family is being held, are they going to go through a procedure which they could believe would put their family in more danger?".

Gardaí held a press conference on the violent incident yesterday.
