Gardaí are continuing to question a man (27) in connection with a carjacking in Dublin.

A woman in her 30s - who is seven and a half months pregnant - was sitting in the passenger seat of a car when it was hijacked on Hill St, near Mountjoy Square, at around 3pm yesterday.

Her partner was a nearby parking meter when the car was taken.

The woman sustained head injuries after the carjacker, who was armed with a blood-filled syringe, tried to push her from the moving vehicle by punching her in the face.

A garda patrol car pursued the vehicle and a man was arrested after a brief chase on foot.

The woman was taken to the Rotunda Hospital, where she was treated overnight.

Crime reporter with the Irish Mirror Cathal McMahon spoke to Newstalk's Breakfast:

The man is being questioned at Store Street garda station. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
