Hamas has warned Israel it will pay "a tremendous price" after seven militants were killed in an airstrike in Gaza. Israel says it carried out airstrikes on at least 14 "terror" sites last night in response to on-going rocket attacks.

It comes as tension rises over the deaths of one Palestinian and three Israeli teenagers last week.

The US said yesterday it was "profoundly troubled" over reports that an American teenager was beaten by police.

Tariq Abu Khdeir (15), who is from Tampa, Florida was visiting family in Jerusalem and was severely injured during clashes with police.

He is to be put under house arrest for nine days.

Police claim Khdeir was among a group of youths attacking police officers and was one of a group of six detained during the incident.

Israeli police have arrested six suspects over the murder of Palestinian teenager Mohammad Abu Khudair - Tariq Khdeir is his cousin.

Khudair's death followed the abduction and murder of three young Israelis, which the Israeli government have blamed on Hamas.

However the Palestinian group deny responsibility. The Palestinian Attorney-General has claimed Khudair was burned alive.

John Costello is an Irish journalist based in Tel Aviv. He told Newstalk Breakfast that rioting broke out in a number of cities last night.
