Ivan Yates and Chris Donoghue started Monday with a sparky exchange of views on singer and serial philanderer Tom Jones.

Chris was unimpressed with claims Jones includes in his new book, about his wife Linda - whom he married at the age of 16.

He quoted Tom as saying she: "Just stays around the house and smokes all day."

Ivan insisted the other quote was telling: "She's the most important thing in my life, an unbelievable woman. Linda is the love of my life... all the rest is just fun and games."

The Irish Independent and The Examiner have pictures from Olympic Park yesterday, where the Irish rugby team took on the Italians, and won.

The lead in the Independent is "Tax burden falls below 50% on middle incomes" - on the budget promise that people over €35,000 salaries will not have to pay 51%.

Also in that paper: "Revealed, the €1,200 per month hidden cost of cancer".

The Examiner is probing under the bonnet of the Longboat Quay apartment saga: "Report on flats fire risks withheld last year", alleging that Dublin Fire Brigade was warned of defects in the buildings in question as far back as May of 2014.

"Senior staff in RTÉ in line for bonus" - The Irish Times has that story. 230 managers will get a thousand euro extra each.

And a poignant photograph on the front page of that paper "Friel takes the quiet road to final resting place".

The Irish Daily Mail is warning readers: "Don't get sick this winter - patients will be packed like sardines into emergency departments says hospital consultant".

The Herald - "Hutch ring of steel - armed gardaí on alert for funeral of slain gangster".

The Irish Sun - "Blind Mother done for no TV licence".

The Irish Daily Mirror and The Irish Daily Star go with the sacking of Liverpool's Brendan Rogers.

The Irish Times has the story of the valuable grandfather clock damaged at Leinster House, while on loan to leaders. It has been badly damaged by hot air. "Is it in the chamber itself" Ivan wanted to know.

Ivan liked the Daily Mail's story that high heels were not designed for women, they were designed for men in the saddle to keep their feet firmly in the stirrups.

James Reilly wants to put 50c on cigarettes in next week's budget and also he wants to put a lot more money on rolled tobacco.
