A technical exam has been taking place overnight at the Co Cork home where a husband and wife were stabbed to death.

The bodies of Michael Greaney (53) and his wife Valerie (49) were found at their home in O'Neil's Place in the town after the alarm was raised by their teenage daughter.

Another woman in her 20s, believed to be their daughter, was also discovered seriously hurt in the house and is being treated in hospital.

Post-mortems have yet to be carried out.

However detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths and that they are treating it as a tragic family incident.

Ralph Riegel is southern correspondent with the Irish Independent. He has given Newstalk Breakfast more detail and stated that the man found dead in the tragedy suffered from "a number of mental health difficulties":

Local Councillor Kieran McCarthy explains the moment he heard the news.

Reporter in Cork, Paul Byrne, says gardaí have focused their inquiries.
