Ireland’s first national aviation policy will be launched by Paschal Donohoe today

Ireland’s first national aviation policy will be launched by Paschal Donohoe today - it commits to retaining Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports in State ownership.

The strategy has been developed over three years.

The launch comes following yesterday's announcement that Aer Lingus had officially agreed a takeover deal with IAG.

One of its key focuses is to increase Ireland’s connectivity - particularly with emerging markets.

The aviation industry employs 26,000 people in Ireland - and contributes over €4bn to the economy.

Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast this morning, the Transport Minister said they would like to aim to open new routes into and out of the country:
