George Hook has exclusively revealed to Newstalk Breakfast that he will be filling the post of Irish Ambassador to the States
Speaking to Ivan Yates from his hotel in New York, George expressed his surprise at the appointment.
"These are normally diplomatic appointments and reserved for members for members of the diplomatic core, but I understand that An Taoiseach wanted someone who was recognisable to take place in events such as The Undocumented and Saint Patrick’s Day parade".
When George was asked about him and the lovely Ingrid making a full time move to Washington, the broadcaster said that he needs to wrap up his radio and TV commitments before he can break into his new role.
Journalist and founder of IrishCentral.com Niall O’Dowd said:
"George will be a magnificent ambassador particularly on issues of great concern to Irish Americans. He has been an outspoken advocate of Irish emigration in America and I think he will do a super job. I think a lot of Cork people will be jumping up and down. There are a lot of them over here".
