A dedicated team is being put together to visit hospital emergency departments with the worst levels of overcrowding.
The squad from the HSE's Special Delivery Unit will put a plan in place that's tailored to the site and aimed at cutting the number of people awaiting treatment on trolleys.
The problem's been in the headlines again in recent days after it emerged that two women over the age of 100 had spent more then 24 hours on trolleys in separate hospitals.
Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast this morning, the INMO's Liam Doran said while he welcomes any initative to alleviate the pressure, it's a case of 'back to the future' as similar schemes have been rolled out in the past without success.
He said he couldn't comment on individual cases from the hospital system but questioned what management are doing on a daily basis and that the Government would need to invest more money to alleviate some of the issues.
