"All permits are in place and it's all systems go to the mountain so for now it's just final gear check and then we're going to fly out tomorrow."

Ahead of going Jason spoke to Newstalk Breakfast and spoke about the different challenges of the 76-day expedition including saying goodbye to his wife and four kids.

"I honestly have to cut that umbilical chord and say goodbye to that world and enter a very different world. I mean it's a very selfish challenge it's a very selfish environment that I put myself in, I mean I'm a married man, I've got four wonderful kids and a wonderful wife yet I still ask for permission from Sharon," Jason told Breakfast.

In spite of the high death rate that K2 has attained Jason said that his goal is to summit and to come home.

"My goal is to summit and to summit and to come home, i think the true success of any mountaineer at any mountain is to stand back where it started and be able to tell the story and I've prepared physically and mentally."

During the 76-day expedition Jason has but an audio dispatch in place where he will communicate every day just describing how he's feeling how the expedition is going an what conditions are like.
