Friends of an Irish man who was killed in the US say they cannot yet grieve for him, because they are worried for his two children.

The body of Jason Corbett was found unresponsive with head injuries following an alleged assault last Sunday morning.

He had been living in the United States for the last four years. He and his children moved over after he met his second wife.

Police received an emergency call in the early hours of last Sunday about an alleged assault at a house in Panther Creek Court.

Mr Corbett (39), who is originally from Limerick, was given emergency medical treatment but died at the scene.

The Davidson County Sheriff's office is investigating the incident, but say they are not looking for anyone outside the house in connection with his death.

The children are currently in the care of Mr Corbett's wife, Molly Martins - the main suspect in the case.

Yesterday, Mr Corbett's brother-in-law Dave Lynch appealed for help from the government.

Mr Corbett's family have said that they are concerned for the welfare of the children, who are the subject of a custody hearing on Friday.

Lynn Shanahan is a friend and business partner of Mr Corbett and godmother of one of the children, Sarah.

She told Newstalk Breakfast they need help from those in power.

Niall Collins is Fianna Fáil spokesperson for justice and TD for Limerick. He says the children could be at risk.

The Department of Foreign Affairs say they are providing consular assistance to the family, while the office of the Irish ambassador to the US say they do not comment on individual cases.
