Today's Paper Review was overshadowed by an ominous update on the condition of John Joe, the goldfish Ivan has been charged with caring for this week. Ivan told us John Joe "had a very bad night... it's a very sad story", before apparently being unable to speak due to laughter.
In discussions of the news this morning, Angela Merkel turns 61 today and the German Chancellor and Chris began today’s Paper Review by discussing a video released yesterday of Ms Merkel telling a young Palestinian girl that her family could not stay in Germany – and did so in what Chris described as ‘very robotic’ way.

Bertie’s appearance at the Banking Inquiry was the only story ever likely to make the front pages, with the former Taoiseach’s testimony at Leinster House pored over and analysed.
The broadsheets all lead with quotes from Bertie, with the Irish Times going with ‘I would have stayed on as Taoiseach’; the Indo leading with “'When I handed over we were in a good position' - Ahern remains defiant”; and the Examiner’s headline reading: ‘Crash breaks my heart’.
In the tabloids, The Daily Mail was far less inclined to stand back and allow Bertie’s words fall on the ears of the Irish people as they may – opting instead for a eye-catching headline that read, simply: ‘You Liar’, and was surrounded by pictures of Bertie alongside property developers.
Inside the papers, Ivan was looking at a story about 2014’s recording breaking temperatures, while Chris looked at the Emmy nominations and how a man from Northern Ireland has been charged in connection with an allegedly racist incident on the Paris Metro.
