The only show in town last night were the annual Brit Awards. Arctic Monkeys won two gongs, even managing to beat One Direction for Best British Band. Kate Moss was also there to pick up David Bowie's award for Best Male. John Meagher brings us the details of the show as well as all the best musical tips for the week ahead

TALKING POINT
The Brit Awards were particularly difficult to stomach this year, especially as the most overrated band of their generation, Arctic Monkeys, won practically everything - but it was good to see David Bowie get an award, even if he didn't turn up to receive it. One of his muses, Kate Moss, picked it up on his behalf - and we did learn that there's a very sound reason why we've rarely heard the woman speak.
ALBUM OF THE WEEK
This is an exceptional week on the albums front - with a brilliant fourth album from the US songwriter, Annie Clark, who's best known by her St Vincent moniker -
Also because the once prolific Beck has released a marvellous comeback album. Morning Phase is a melancholic effort, but it's a beautiful record and a companion piece to his 2002 break-up classic, Sea Change.
GIG OF THE WEEK
Kodo Drummers: the extraordinary Japanese drumming troupe play the National Concert Hall, Dublin, on Saturday and Sunday night. It's one for percussion lovers everywhere - and the players bring an extraordinary physicality to their playing. And the aforementioned St Vincent plays Dublin's Olympia tomorrow.
TIP OF THE WEEK
Tickets for Ennio Morricone's O2 show in December go on sale this morning - and Tower Records has reopened in the old Waterstones building on Dawson Street, Dublin. Always good to see record shops surviving in these tough times.
