SIPTU is recommending that their members vote in favour of the Landsdowne Road Agreement.

The National Executive Council of SIPTU met today to consider the proposals for an agreement on pay in the public service.

A secret ballot is due to be completed by SIPTU by the July 23, following a period of extensive membership consultation and information.

Meanwhile, The TUI and IMO are recommending their members reject the proposals, which would see workers receive a €2,000 pay rise over two years.

Earlier, the Public Expenditure Minister said he still believes most public sector unions will sign up to the new pay deal.

Brendan Howlin said he is still confident, despite the news that the IMO and TUI will recommend its members reject the Lansdowne Road deal.

Minister Howlin said he is confident that the majority of unions will support the deal and see it through:

The president of the IMO, Dr Ray Walley, says the Government still refuses to address the fundamental principle of equal pay for equal work.

He also says that medical professionals in this country are disillusioned.

"We're all arriving at work and working long hours, and you can see in the discussion forums that you have with doctors many of them are fed up of working in the HSE, they're working in the health service" he said.

"And that is a single biggest reason where people working with an employer - which is breaking rues and breaking agreements...this is just another straw to break the camel's back" he added.

Patricia King, general secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU), told Newstalk Breakfast some public sector staff saw huge cuts in their wages.
