Owners and residents at Longboat Quay in Dublin are considering legal action to recover the cost of emergency repairs at the apartment complex.

They say the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) and the receiver handling the apartments are 'responsible' for the situation.

They are giving them a week to increase their offer of financial support.

The cost of repairs to bring the complex up to required safety standards is estimated at €4m.

Yesterday, they met with Environment Minister Alan Kelly and described the meeting as 'productive'.

It comes as Sinn Féin's Mary Lou McDonald has offered to ring the developer behind the apartments and ask him personally to cover the cost of remedial work.

Ms McDonald said in the Dáil that she would be happy to make a personal appeal to developer Bernard McNamara - but she cannot find his phone number.

Thomas Byrne is a Fianna Fáil Senator and solicitor.

He told Newstalk Breakfast there are several other developments in a similar situation.
