The HSE is hitting back at claims it left tens of thousands of patients off waiting lists.
It's after it emerged that more than 27,000 people are awaiting MRI scans - some of them for more than two years - with those figures not included on official statistics.
The health service says it's undertaking a "full review" of waiting times for diagnostics.
Angela Fitzgerald is the Assistant National Director in the HSE's Acute Hospitals division.
She claims there was no attempt to massage the figures - and diagnostic wait times will be recorded from next year.
Yesterday, the Health Minister stated that there was no attempt to conceal information about the waiting times.
In a statement, Leo Varadkar said he has no interest in making things look better or worse than they are and the HSE plans to publish updated information on diagnostics again in the future.
However, he says its important the information is accurate and comparable across hospitals, as currently it is not.
