An expectant mother has called on the Health Service Executive (HSE) to investigate Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise after she was incorrectly told that her unborn baby had died.
Aimee Nolan visited her doctor and was referred to the hospital after the GP could not hear a heartbeat.
At the hospital, Ms Nolan was told that her unborn baby had not grown for the past nine weeks. She was told her baby was dead.
She was then asked to return to the hospital to discuss what procedure she could undergo next. According to RTE, when she returned to the hospital she was told that her baby was alive.
The couple were also told they should have undergone a second scan on the day she was informed her baby had passed away.
The HSE have confirmed that it is aware of the case and the matter is being fully reviewed. They have also apologised to the family.
Earlier this week, the death of baby Mary Kate Kelly was officially been recorded as being that of a result of "medical misadventure".
The inquest in Limerick heard from a consultant there who said Mary Kate would have been born alive if doctors in Portlaoise had acted on the results of a CTG scan.
Solicitor Rachel Liston told Newstalk Breakfast the Nolan's are extremely upset.
