It’s a long time since Jason Donovan was on our screens in Neighbours but he’s back and starring in yet another musical. After impressing in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat back in the day, he's in fine form in the high-camp Priscilla: Queen of the Desert which has just opened in Dublin's Bord Gais Energy Theatre
Morrissey's hugely anticipated autobiography was released by Penguin at midnight last night. Moz fans were trying to outdo each other on Twitter as the night wore on about what nuggets they had gleaned from the book. For Irish aficionados, the book is out this morning.
ALBUM OF THE WEEK
James Blunt may be releasing his fourth album tomorrow, but this wretched songwriter could do with being exposed to a true master of the art - and they don't come much better than a young Van Morrison whose brilliant second solo album, 1970's Moondance, is released in lavish, expanded version this week, and packed with outtakes and alternate versions.
GIG OF THE WEEK
So much happening over the next seven days - Chic playing Tuesday in Vicar Street, Dublin, is the pick of the bunch and Travis in the same venue on Monday could offer a reminder that they reached a lot of people a decade ago. MGMT are in Cork on Sunday - they're headlining Murphy's Little Big Night gigs, whose line-up also includes Irish acts The Stunning, The Would Be's and Jerry Fish. MGMT also play Dublin's Olympia on Saturday.
TIP OF THE WEEK
The gorgeous, slow-burning second album, When the Colour Runs, from the Newcastle quintet Lanterns on the Lake. Their stately, beautifully textured music makes for an absorbing listen.
