The INMO General Secretary Liam Doran has told Jonathan Healy on Lunchtime that at least half a billion euro will be needed to keep the health service afloat this year.
He says 1,000 extra beds must be opened and staff hired to stabilise the system.
The latest INMO trolley-watch analyses show figures are still increasing. The figures for last month are up 26% on last year and 73 per-cent since April 2006.
35,000 patients were left on trolleys from January to April of this year - the highest amount recorded for the four month period since records began.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation carried out the analyses ahead of their three day Annual Delegate Conference which commences in Trim.
