A man (41) has appeared in court in Dublin charged with the murder of Elaine O'Hara (36).

Graham Dwyer of Kerrymount Close in Foxrock was arrested early yesterday morning at his home in south Dublin.

The arrest followed the discovery of the childcare worker's skeletal remains in the Dublin mountains last month, after her disappearance a year earlier.

Two cars and a number of other items - including computers - have been seized by gardaí for examination.

Reporter Fergal O'Brien was in court this morning:

Dwyer, a married father of two, was arrested yesterday when gardaí carried out a pre-dawn raid on his home in Foxrock in Dublin.

He was questioned through the night, without a rest period, forcing gardaí to move on charging him early this morning.

Before making their arrest, investigators had trawled through 1600 hours of CCTV footage. But it's understood the discovery of a mobile phone and other items in Roundwood, Co. Wicklow, gave the investigation a real boost.

Gardaí have been running through possible suspects whose contacts were on Elaine's phone one by one since they made those finds. It's understood Elaine and the suspect may have made their acquintance through a website they were both users of.

Cars, phones and computers seized at the man's home are being examined by gardaí.

Elaine O'Hara went missingon August 22nd 2012

Elaine O'Hara was originally from Killiney in south Dublin and was reported missing by her father on August 24th 2012 - two days after she was seen leaving her home in Stepaside.

Her 05-D registered turquoise Fiat Punto car was located at Shanganagh Cemetery in Shankill soon after.

However despite public appeals for information her whereabouts remained unknown for more than 12 months.

Skeletal remains discovered by a woman out walking her dog at Kilakee Mountain near Rathfarnham on September 13th were positively identified this September.

Following forensic tests and a post mortem examination the case was subsequently upgraded from a missing person investigation - to a murder inquiry.
