Details of phone calls with witnesses in the case of Sophie Toscan Du Plantier’s murder have emerged. The recordings were made at Bandon Garda station and took place at the time of the investigation.

They have come to light as a result of a civil case taken by Ian Bailey, who is seeking damages from the state for unlawful arrest and false imprisonment.

Shane Coleman spoke to John Mooney, security correspondent with the Sunday Times on Newstalk Breakfast.

Meanwhile, a Garda authority is set to be established which will have oversight over the force and its commissioner.

The new body results from the controversy surrounding recent events, including the resignation of Martin Callinan and the revelation that calls had been recorded at some Garda stations for nearly 30 years.

The oversight committee is a long held ambition for Labour, but its establishment was not contained in the programme for government.

Denis Bradley is a former Vice Chairman of Northern Ireland Policing Board spoke to Breakfast about the role the authority should play and how bodies like this have worked in Northern Ireland.
