Air accident investigators are at the scene of yesterday's plane crash in Co Wexford, in which two men were killed.

69-year-old Bryan Keane and 58-year-old Paul Smith died after their plane came down near Blackstairs Commons.

They were both experienced pilots from Co Meath. There were no reports of any distress signal.

The bodies remained at the scene overnight. Gardaí have been coordinating the recovery operation with South East Mountain Rescue and the coast guard helicopter.

The light aircraft had taken off from Athboy Aerodrome in Co Meath and was heading towards Wexford in good weather conditions.

The alarm was raised by a hillwalker, who alerted emergency services after seeing the plane come down at Blackstairs Commons near Mount Leinster on the Carlow-Wexford border.

Michael Sinnott is the head of news in South East Radio.

He told Newstalk Breakfast there are still a lot of questions over what exactly happened.
