A bill seeking the abolition of a mandatory retirement age is to be debated in the Dáil today.

Retirement age in Ireland is 66 at the moment, but that is expected to rise to 68 by 2028.

Former chief executive of the Retirement Planning Council is John Higgins.

Labour TD Anne Ferris is putting forward legislation.

It is not being opposed by the coalition, but may not become law before the general election.

The Wicklow deputy says she hopes there is enough time left in the coalition to see this law changed.
