Electronics company Samsung has come under fire after it emerged that some of its televisions that use voice-recognition technology could be monitoring private conversations at home and sending this data back to the company - and third parties.

Samsung's Smart TV privacy policy reads "please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party through your use of Voice Recognition."

The wording of the policy has been criticised, although Samsung has moved to allay concerns by stating it "takes customer privacy very seriously... In all of our Smart TVs we employ industry-standard security safeguards and practices, including data encryption, to secure consumers’ personal information and prevent unauthorised collection or use."
