The Former Justice Minister Alan Shatter will appear on the 'Late Late Show' tonight, where he is expected to discuss his resignation.

Reports suggest Mr Shatter will also go into detail about the garda whistleblower controversy, as well as the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC).

Last week, Mr Shatter criticised GSOC and called for the head of the watchdog to step down.

Mr Shatter said Simon O'Brien could not stay in office after failing to find the source of a leak about alleged bugging at his offices.

The report, conducted by senior counsel Mark Connaughton, says it was unable to establish individual responsibility for any disclosure - either on the part of an employee of GSOC or any other party.

But the current Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald told Newstalk she had full confidence in the organisation.

Special correspondent with the Irish Examiner, Mick Clifford, told Newstalk Breakfast the interview tonight could see Mr Shatter lift the lid on the resignation of Commissioner Callinan.
