As you might imagine, Ivan and Chris are particularly interested in sleep – it’s a rare treat for the staff of a radio breakfast show. So when he saw a report this morning on a study on the dangers of 9-5 he was excited – “Happy days, Yates and I have something to rejoice about our lifestyle,” he said.

But Chris was left disappointed, rather than a study on the benefits of shift work, and the early rise, it was instead calling for a later start.

Research from Oxford has shown that people should be starting work at 10am – and earlier starts have made us a sleep deprived society, and will forever leave us so as there’s no way to alter our circadian rhythm.

In the papers the main story for most was the sentencing of Alexander Pacteau to 23 years in prison for the murder of Karen Buckley in Glasgow.

There was also a lot of coverage of the British Airways plane that was successfully evacuated after a fire started on board while the plane waited to take off on a Las Vegas runway.

The Irish Independent reported on the Pope’s changes to marriage annulment, which will make the process “easy and cheap” according to the paper.

The Irish Times leads with “Ministers hike public spending demands” as the paper reports on the wish list of demands from ministers of Education and Justice to Minister for Public Expenditure, Brendan Howlin.

The Herald leads with the story of Ireland international player Jeff Hendrick in court on charges of violent disorder, while the rest of the tabloids lead with Pacteau’s sentence.

And finally, Ivan spotted a story about the dangers of using mobile porn apps you might be downloading viruses on your phone, and then be charged an extortion fee to have it removed, while Chris raised a few doubts over how the papers were reporting the Taoiseach’s statement yesterday that ISIS “want to blow up Newgrange and the Rock of Cashel”.
